Usual early start for the 3 - 5 hour small boat trip down the Nam Ou. ETAs are very flexible here. Rolling hills then impressive karst formations and the occasional collection of huts for the local subsistence farmers and fishing communities. Little bird or animal life; anything near a village ends up in the pot!

Nong Khiaw is tiny; a local market, school, some guest houses and our hotel with its very own small infinity pool and yoga pavilion overlooking the river. Sadly missed the yoga retreat by just a few days! Yep, definitely upmarket in everything except the price, and the bikes which lacked even brakes! We spent our days cycling, walking and enjoying the facilities.

We also had our first proper hike, 500 meters up to a viewpoint first thing in the morning to get above the early cloud layer which was then burnt off by the sun.
